How do proposals and opportunities connect?

The opportunity's stages mirror the real status of the proposal, without you moving them by hand. The opportunity advances on its own with the proposal's milestones — and only forward (it never sends back one that was already further along).

  1. 1When you PUBLISH a personalized client proposal, the opportunity is created on its own (if it didn't have one) and moves to «Proposal sent». Right after, it asks you for the expected close date and value to fine-tune it.
  2. 2When the CLIENT OPENS the proposal, the opportunity moves to «Proposal viewed» — your signal that they're looking at it.
  3. 3If the client REQUESTS CHANGES from the proposal, it moves to «Negotiating».
  4. 4When the client ACCEPTS, it moves to «Won». If you mark the opportunity as «Lost», the linked open proposals are marked lost too.
  5. 5You're in charge: the automatic advance only pushes forward. If you manually move an opportunity to «Negotiating» and the client opens the proposal again, it does NOT go back.

Consejo: If the proposal's client is a free-text name (not linked to the CRM), publishing also creates the contact and attaches the opportunity to it. Only a proposal with no client at all creates nothing.
